CONTEXT

-a quick brief of the product

OVERVIEW- The what?

“Ciclo” is a micro-mobility system with enhanced features to bring sustainability to the society and help commuters have a better mobility experience with safer, shareable& leisure commuting.

VIEW PROTOTYPE

THE PROBLEM- The why?

The existing applications were lacking major functionalities like SOS, confused map navigation feature, quick query services& failing to keep up the overall user experience tact.

THE SOLUTION- The how?

The proposed system “Ciclo” focuses on the usability experience and filling the market gaps as well. With the smart wearable connectivity and the informative event suggestions, this system delivers a positive phenomenon.

The WMW (why might we) phase

"WMW study defines the range of factors that actually acts as the stop signs in the existing system"

The 3 important factors causing a hole in the existing system can be categorized into (environment, motor, identity (public & personal)).

The gaps.png
The initial hypothesis gaps

The above mentioned unsystematic specifics are the literal holes in the existing system suppressing the eco-friendly initiative towards the society.

In order to modify this cycle of polluting & violating the community, the concept of “Electric cycle” built with the set of features and accessibility to enhance the usability & safety of the commuters will be a life-saver without any uncertainty.

Secondary research phase

"Carrying out the secondary research gave me an in-depth insight to validate my WMW phase assumptions"

The collectibles includes news articles indicating the fuel price hike, tweets signifying the change the people want were some of the background resources that laid a foundation for the WMW phase.

Some of the resources

The pandemic effect

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the self-concern and awareness of using e-cycle for safer commuting than public transportation among the people has increased by 12%.

Comparatively, the pandemic demand is lower than the pre-covid period!

  • What are the red signs that are stopping people from taking a step towards the eco-friendly society?

  • How can we maintain this positive phenomenon post-covid?

  • What can we do to bring more awareness about sustainability?

  • What are the factors for the reluctance among people?

  • Is there anything other than the tag “exercise” can be highlighted as the benefit of using “e-cycle”?

Competitive analysis

Since India had already initiated the E-cycle concept which has now become quite a custom for working professionals, the analysis phase grouping the market gap& the stakeholder strategy was necessary to build a “System with prominent new features or to improve the existing ones”.

CA descriptions.png
The terms: Description of the labels used in the below table
CA 1.png

According to the data collected parting all the business models, the market factors of “Smart-bike India” and “Yulu” were at symmetry fulfilling the initial bench-marking & to proceed further with the feature analysis.

The overall application usability reviews were analysed separately into sign-up, how to, ratings, user flow and features such as menu option, map navigation, locate options, payments etc.

Some more comparative analysis by collecting and comparing observations & key features from the existing cycling apps.

CA 4.png

1. “Every time I have to stop-by to check the directions”

People don’t seem to like the idea of stopping frequently to check for directions. Although, some users liked to pull over to pause for a little break time/to add a stop as a reminder, concern about time effectiveness and change in the destination time were noticed.

Q: “How might we bring the flexibility of knowing/accessing the live route while on-ride?”

2. “I follow the same/familiar route everyday”

Users from the city or outsider/s always take the familiar route since it’s the only way to reach the destination on-time/ convenient even though they think it’s boring.

Q: “How might we break this typical routine and bring in more scenic/faster/event-full routes?”

User research

"A user survey to perform quick analysis on the target audience & to frame the possible scenarios"

The potential users (Working professionals, cyclist, and students) who were already using the e-cycle service were the target audience along with an initiative to enlighten people on maintaining this positive phenomenon post-covid by improving the awareness of commuting by e-cycles.

Meet the personas' !

The personas’ were crafted in accountability with the user demographics, diverse feedbacks on the application/ service in general.

💡

User persona
The requests/suggestions from the persona interviews gave an open option to further explore the service flow of the application.
Some of the opportunities with green signs were,
  • Safe driving (speed alerts, update traffic rules, query service)

  • Smart device connection (Mi portable connection, smart watch, cardio apps third party link)

  • Recommendations on various/alt routes, events otw

HMW phase
H
ow Might We questions were framed to get more involved into the architectural part of the application & to figure out what’s the actual need based on the gaps found in the research phase& the other studies? % of chances for implementing? and how to implement? etc.

"How might we improve the e-cycle service for the betterment of the society?"

HMW.png
"How does this upgrade make a difference with the service flow?"
Goals
Upon considering the possibilities of including/ revising some of the features in the existing system, the goals of the application were as follows,
Goals.png

Product Success Metrics

To determine the weight of the features when moved on to the development/ updating phase, the UX metrics were framed.

"So what are the business + usability impacts?"

  • Revised application structure

  • Smart wearable usability

  • Enhanced tech features

"A way to increase the user engagement is filling that market gap"

Based on the metrics, the features with high impact and least effort were determined for a better re-check and understanding for the further development phase.

What's next ?

If it wasn't for covid and the lack of service availability in most of the rural areas, I really would like to have the usability test done for more proper iterations based on the overall application experience results.

Service features for the future

  • Home Page: A intermediate page between the full page navigation and the mood checker to have a more informative way of showcasing the offers, Popular ride categories, option to check the fare estimation

  • Group Ride: Feature where friends/contacts/people with similar plans can enjoy the ride by planning a group ride (same ride timing/location/pre-bookings)

  • Audio: Option where the commuters on-ride can get music/audio-book suggestions based on the live weather conditions

The lesson

Through this project, I have learned that it is important to use existing design patterns since that is what the real users are familiar with no matter how many new features are going to be introduced or is just a re-design. In addition, more interview questions should focus on the participant's behavior and experiences, not just from the questions directly relating to the topic of the problem itself.

Key Takeaways

  •  Consistency between devices is key

  •  Build a product in a way where the BX > CX > Product metrics meet inside a frame to bring in a more impactful solution

My Personal Takeaways

  • Had a good understanding of how the iOS design implementation works on various platforms

  • Took a step to practice a good design system documenting and team design collabs work on zeroheight tool

  • A little study on the Deep networks and AI integration and a lots of journal findings.
